Pasadena Apartments
220 Hugo Street

Built in a Californian Style, the Pasedena Apartments is a 28 suite block south of Wellington Crescent. The block was very much constructed for more affluent tenants and included features such as servants quarters and rather large rooms.
The block was a project of Thomas Sharpe, a contractor who served three terms as Mayor of Winnipeg beginning in 1904. It was constructed in 1912 for $65,000 based on a design by local architecture firm Hooper and Hooper. The block is a U shape and is constructed of concrete tile. It bears a red clay tile roof, characteristic of the mission style. The exterior is rather plain, bearing little ornamentation. The blocks three entryways off of the central courtyard all boast marble accented by oak banisters and door frames.
