Lily Apartments (W.R. Allan House)
6 Roslyn Road
Originally the Lily Apartments was constructed as a duplex,
designed by Hugh Holman in 1914. It was built for Mrs. W.R.
Allen's son and daughter and their families. Her husband was
the son of the founder of Allen Steamship Lines, and came
west to establish a financial and insurance firm, Allen Killam
and McKay. Mrs. Allen's son, George Killam was a partner in
the firm, and lived in the duplex with his wife, and his sister
lived in the other half with her husband Herbert Pennock.
In the 1950s the duplex was converted into several apartments,
but despite the alterations to the inside, the outside remains
the same. The inside originally contained servants’
staircases, and both the upper and lower halves contained
a formal library. The wood finishes were oak, and mahogany
paneling.
