Lady Nanton's Gatehouse
229 Roslyn Road

At 229 Roslyn Road, a set of Limestone gates and a small cottage are all that remains of Sir Augustus and Lady Nanton's massive Kilmorie estate, which once hosted a large stable converted into their home surrounded by forest. When Nanton, a powerful Winnipeg business man, died in 1925, Lady Nanton found thier large home too difficult to upkeep. She subsequently moved into the gatehouse, Built in approximately 1905, it had originally served as living quarters for Nanton's groom and groundskeeper. It was added onto and renovated to be a suitable home for Lady Nanton, and some oak paneling, the stone fireplace, and hardware from the larger house were refitted into the gatehouse. In the 1940s Lady Nanton had the large house demolished. After her death in the mid 1940s, the gatehouse was rented out, however the fixtures that were moved to the cottage remain to serve as a reminder of the Nanton's large estate.
