J.W. Harris House
26 Edmonton Street
Built in the Queen Anne style, 26 Edmonton Street is a modestly
ornamented 2 1/2 storey dwelling. It was built in 1902 by
architect Colin Campbell Chisholm for a cost of $6,500. Although
bearing few architectural highlights, those present are distinct,
such as the stone accents found around the windows and doors
and eaves enclosed with ornamental bracketing and a south
side bay window with an unusual glass roof. The house retains
much the same exterior structure, however, there was once
a front porch which wrapped around the north side of the house.
A basement door was added along with concrete steps, as well
as a wooden staircase and fire escape in the rear. In the
1920s the house was used as a boarding home and in 1977 was
converted into offices, which resulted in upgrades to the
heating and electrical systems and also a revival of the original
interior layout.
