Falls House
36 Roslyn Road
In 1907 John Claire Falls constructed a 2 1/2 storey house
at the southwest corner of Roslyn Road and Bryce Street. The
project cost $15,000 and was designed by Wardell and Nichols
and built by A.B. Anderson. In design the building displays
many characteristics of the Georgian revival style. The most
prominent feature of the home is the four bay windows (two
upper and two lower) which flank the front entrance. The east
elevation has a combined veranda and upper deck, and a projecting
section of wall around the side doorway. Exterior staircases
were added to the buildings rear in 1951.
After Falls died, the house was rented out to various families,
and later converted into a boarding house in the 1930s. The
home change hands and incurred many alterations in subsequent
years. Most recently the home has been converted into the
Guvana Therapy Centre, and includes a health food store, massage
therapists, psychologists, and dentists. Some interior elements
have been restored, and upgrades have been made to the lighting
heating and fire alarm systems.
