Penny McMillan | President
Penny is an active participant in the community and serves as General Manager of Rainbow Stage. She regularly contributes to a number of other organizations by serving on additional Boards and Committees on specific projects.
Penny is proud to live in the Exchange District, work in downtown Winnipeg and market Winnipeg to visitors.
Jordan van Sewell | First Vice President
Jordan served 6 years as Chair of the Works of Art Committee at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. He is also past Executive Director at the Manitoba Crafts Council.
Jordan works primarily as a studio artist and educator of the arts but is also actively involved with community issues in South Point Douglas.
Nancy Klos | Secretary
Nancy Klos holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts, Honours (Political Science and Administrative Studies) from the University of Winnipeg. Nancy has been a member of Heritage Winnipeg since 1989, becoming a board member in 1997. She also was instrumental in the publication of Winnipeg InSight, and kindly donated copies to Heritage Winnipeg's library. Her areas of interest include heritage photography and heritage preservation-related research in tourism and the motion picture industry.
David Dandeneau
David Dandeneau was a development officer at the College universitaire de Saint-Boniface with responsibility for fundraising. He has established an endowment fund, which has raised more than $5 million. His other responsibilities include promotion and marketing, recruitment, strategic partnerships and special events. He has had a long and varied experience in community organizations.
He is presently involved with la Maison-Gabrielle Roy Inc., Manitoba Film and Sound Corporation (co-founder), the Business Development Corporation of Saint-Boniface, the Youville Centre, the Manitoba Métis Federation and is president of the Saint-Boniface Development Corporation.
Jim Kacki, Architect
Jim is principal partner of James Kacki Architect and Planner Inc., and a holder of a B. Arch., U. of M., where he also taught in the 1980s.
His professional experience has included work with E. J. Gaboury, and with other Manitoba firms. His projects have included heritage design and work for Arts Accommodation in the Historic Winnipeg Area, The East Yards and late The Forks Site Plan.
He currently is a volunteer member of the Forks Historic Advisory Committee, and had just completed supervising the restoration of the two rail cars at the Forks. Jim is also on the Heritage Winnipeg Streetcar 356 Committee.
Shelly Slobodzian
Shelly Slobodzian was born and raised in Winnipegosis, Manitoba and graduated from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Architecture with a Bachelor of Interior Design in 1998. Her interest in historical buildings and heritage sites was peaked through her architecture and design education which led to travels throughout Europe after graduation to witness many of the architectural treasures she had studied firsthand.
Shelly has written an article for Manitoba History magazine, spent a summer assisting Professor William Thompson with his research for the Faculty of Architecture’s ‘Legacy Project’, provided sketches of heritage homes for the West Broadway Walking Tour brochure and assisted the Manitoba East European Heritage Society in documenting rural religious structures in Manitoba.
Currently employed as a Professional Interior Designer with LM Architectural Group in Winnipeg, Shelly is an active volunteer, lending her time to numerous organizations in the city. Her connection to Heritage Winnipeg was initiated volunteering for Doors Open in 2007, after which she inquired about becoming further involved with the organization. This led to a place on Heritage Winnipeg's Fundraising and Events Committee, with which she is still actively involved. Beyond her work and volunteer efforts, Shelly continues to pursue her love of all things ‘old’ through travel and photography.
Lisa Gardewine
Lisa was raised in Winnipeg in the suburb of Garden City during the 1960’s and 1970’s, which accounts for her passion to promote and preserve Winnipeg’s fine works of mid-century modern architecture.
She is a graduate of the St. Boniface General Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Manitoba. As a registered nurse, she is employed as a nurse educator at Children’s Hospital, Health Sciences Centre.
She currently resides in River Grove of Old Kildonan, historic home to many of the Selkirk settlers.
Herbert Brian Stewart
Herbert was born to parents who were active on the Winnipeg scene in the 1912 era when many architectural treasures of the city were constructed. He is a graduate of the University of Manitoba, B.Arch. ’52 and has a natural interest in the quality and appearance of Winnipeg’s built environment.
Now retired from architectural practice in Winnipeg; London, England; Toronto and Singapore, he has witnessed the demolition of historic buildings around the world which have had significant impacts on each city. Downtown Winnipeg had a vibrant character in the early 60’s, but upon his return after a fifty-year absence it had become a ghost town. He would now like to participate in the preservation, restoration and change of use of these buildings in order to help maintain the historic architectural environment of the city.
Tony Eshmade
Mr. Eshmade emigrated to Canada in 1959 after a number of years experience in consulting and municipal engineering offices in the U.K.. Even as a young structural engineer he had been associated with a number of “heritage” type works in the municipal offices.
R. Thomas Dixon
Mr. Dixon was involved with Heritage Winnipeg from the outset of incorporation in 1978 and is also a past Board of Director. He has owned property in the Exchange District since 1971.
Mr. Dixon completed the first heritage building restoration project in the Exchange District at the Donald Bain building, 115 Bannatyne Avenue. He also purchased the Hammond building at 63 Albert Street from The Heritage Canada Foundation and completed the first roof top addition. Tenants enjoyed using the common space on the 6th floor for various meetings and functions. Other buildings purchased over three decades also included the Citadel/Salvation Army building and the Criterion Hotel on McDermot Avenue.

In 1971 Mr Eshmade opened his own Structural Engineering Practice which he still operates. - Five years working on restoration and reconstruction of “The Big House & Annex” at Lower Fort Garry, The Fur Loft, Gaol, Museum, Bastion and other facilities at Lower Fort Garry.
- Engineer for Provincial Parks & Heritage for the Trappist Monastery stabilization and repairs following the devastating fire.
- Structural services for the remedial work and stabilizing of St. Boniface Museum for which he received a “Heritage Award”.
- Assessment and recommendations for remediation of Young United Church following the fire. Subsequently received a “Heritage Award” for work on the tower.
- Restoration of Old St. Andrews on the Red.
- Confederation Building Restoration - Five years working on restoration and reconstruction of “The Big House & Annex” at Lower Fort Garry, The Fur Loft, Gaol, Museum, Bastion and other facilities at Lower Fort Garry.
